Artists, Movements & Media
A class ideal for older elementary to middle school-aged artists with some visual arts experience, curious about artists and art movements throughout history and across cultures, and developing their skills. Technical instruction is provided for more advanced projects in painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and fiber arts. Up to 6 artists.
Early Elementary Art
A class ideal for younger artists (K – 2nd grade), with equal focus on building fundamental skills and space for individual expression and creativity. Projects and materials range from drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, collage, fiber arts, and mixed media. No previous art experience required. Up to 8 artists.
Studio Choice Art
A class ideal for self-directed elementary-aged artists with some visual arts experience. Weekly choice stations in drawing, painting, sculpture, fiber arts, and mixed media provide a self-directed creative studio experience. Guided steps and instructions are provided for weekly project choices. Up to 6 artists.
Drawing + Painting Class
A group class for artists of any age, with focus on line, observation, imagination, texture, value, and more. Painting fundamentals in watercolors and acrylics are explored as well, to create a variety of 2D projects through the series. No previous experience is required.
To register for After School, email Maya at FeatherPressAmherst@Gmail.com.
Please include your artist’s name, age, and class choice.

In after school art classes, students explore drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking, fiber arts, and mixed media in a relaxed and open-ended structure. We find inspiration in nature, observation, abstraction, imagination and fantasy, and in global art works and traditions from ancient to contemporary times.
We consider artwork by various artists for inspiration and conversation, and for developing different ways of seeing and interpreting the world of visual arts.
Artists are encouraged to find their own unique creative perspective through their studio experience.
After school art classes include art instruction and space for self-direction and choice. Emphasis is on nurturing creativity and connection with materials and each other.
Health & Safety
Artists are welcome to bring a snack and water bottle. Artists may enjoy their water or snack independent from other artists in the library space or the couch area.
Accessible restroom onsite
Regular sanitation of high-touch surfaces
Masks are now optional. Wearing a mask is encouraged for children who were recently under the weather, or have mild residual symptoms. Disposable masks are provided.
Sibling Discount
After the first artist, additional artists from the same family receive a discounted rate of 10%.
Inclement Weather & Absence Policy
We follow the Amherst School District for inclement weather cancellations. In case of a snow day, the class series will be extended to make up for the cancellation.
Absence policy: Make-up classes are scheduled seasonally for artists who were absent to finish projects. If your child was ever absent and cannot attend the make-up session, up to two classes may roll over to the following class series, or one class may be applied to a future Feather Press Studio program as class credit. One missed class may be refunded.
